Health & Safety

A surveillance camera is positioned at the front door and back gate.  All school doors are kept locked during the school day. To gain entry to the school please ring the front door bell.  Please note that doors locked on the outside do open from the inside in the case of an emergency.   If we are to provide as safe and secure an environment as possible for the children, we need your co-operation in following the guidelines set out below.

Security - Entry to School

The school will be locked until 8.30 am.  Entry to the school before this time is not permissible as children cannot be on the premises without supervision   At 8.30 am when the playground is supervised, entry to main school building is from the side gate (marked Main School) in Bull Street.  Staff on duty will monitor entrances.  At 8.45 am the doors will be locked and children arriving late for school should enter via the front entrance.   Nursery children will enter through the nursery gate (marked Montessori Nursery) in Bull Street, which will be manned, from  8:50 to 9.15 am

Children arriving later in the day or parents visiting during the day must use the front entrance. The front door bell must be used to attract the attention of a member staff.

Supervision - Break times - Playground duty

Staff supervision duties are vital to the efficient running of the school.  In general, the supervisory rota system is the responsibility of the Heads of Department.  The school has a legal duty to devise a reasonable system for the supervision of pupils throughout the school day.  This means two members of staff should be on duty during break times and two members during lunch times. Teachers are expected to do one lunch duty each week.  All supervisory duties are allocated at the beginning of each term.

Supervision inside involves:

a)                                 Ensuring monitors are on duty
b)                                 Supervising behaviour
c)                                 Ensuring that pupils should stay in their classrooms
d)                                 Seeing that rooms are kept clean and tidy

Supervision outside involves:

a)                                 Supervising behaviour
b)                                 Keeping pupils in sight
c)                                 Keeping check on the fort
d)                                 Keeping check on bottom gate

On wet days, Junior and Infant children may stay in their class rooms. Two junior monitors are allocated per room. Supervisory staff are responsible for checking each class on a rotational basis.  Pupils from the Nursery may have recreation in the Gym - Please note:- Pupils may not climb on the wall bars or use any of the P.E. equipment.

Security - Nursery

The Nursery gate remains locked or staffed at all times during the school day.  To gain entry outside normal dropping off times the doorbell must be used to attract the attention of a member of staff.

End of School Day - Nursery

For reasons of safety, we ask that parents let staff know if their child is to be collected by a different person with whom the staff are not familiar.

Collection at 11.45 am, 12.45 pm and 3.15 pm.

Before School

Children are supervised on the playground from 8.30 am - 8.50 am.

On wet days, Junior and Infant children go directly to their classrooms.  The Class Teacher will be in attendance from 8.30 am.

Fire Alarm

Any parents or visitors in the school when the fire alarm is set off, for whatever reason, should leave by the nearest exit and assemble in the School playground.  Alarms are tested every Monday.

Money, Valuables and Toys

Children are discouraged from bringing money into school.  Should they be required to bring money for any reason it must be in a sealed envelope stating the child's name and form and the purpose of the money.  It should be handed to the appropriate member of staff upon arrival.

Children are strongly discouraged from bringing valuables to school.  Any that are brought must be clearly named and are the responsibility of the child concerned.  A small toy / doll / teddy may be brought by the very young children.

Personal Property

All articles of clothing and footwear must be clearly marked with names and initials.

Damage / Loss of School Property

Parents are responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing property, which has been lost or wilfully or carelessly damaged by their child.
